Message to all who read and download any documentation related to the new feature.

The documentation on the Products page and the privately held Copyright is in place to protect the concept of the Automatic Repeat function being implemented directly onto YouTube in any and all forms.

This includes any acquisition or employment of any company, companies, groups or individuals currently offering, have or claim to have knowledge of the Auto Repeat function or currently offer the function as a third party. This in extension includes any and all parties be it a company, companies, groups or individuals who claim to have knowledge on how to implement the automotive system onto YouTube.

If YouTube bring out an official application offering the Automatic Repeat function this will be seen as the same action as the above.

Any implementation of the Auto Repeat function onto YouTube would be a breach and infringement of the following copyright designed to protect the idea to implement the Auto Repeat function directly to YouTube, a concept created by Michael Barnes Keighley.

START OF DOCUMENTATION OF IDEA

New concept for YouTube and throughout this document you will find details on the concept covering all aspects of the idea and how it works, fits into the current system and how it will benefit all parties involved with the site.

1.1 For years there has been a need to improve the functionality of YouTube, people have never had the choice to automatically repeat individual videos on YouTube.

The Auto Repeat feature enables users to continuously play and repeat video content on YouTube. The application offers convenience and added choice to the user that is currently unavailable on the site.

The Auto Repeat function can be activated or deactivated by clicking on the icon representing Auto Repeat. The applications location and design is not limited to what has been described in this document.

The current valuation placed on this feature is £13.5 million.

I’m confident that this Auto Repeat feature will give increased flexibility to users whilst on YouTube and ensure future growth and development of the services currently offered” Michael Barnes Keighley.

The Automatic Repeat feature will become standard practice and will be placed on all videos uploaded onto YouTube allowing users the option to automatically repeat the current video they are watching via YouTube.

The current Replay feature is only available at the end of a video users have been watching, if the user is watching through a computer a list of suggested videos come up onto the screen and the streaming of the current video stops.

The next response taken by the user is not automatic and requires further action either to re-watch the current video or select another this action is taken by a click and movement by the user.

With the Auto Repeat feature activated there is no need to take further action, and it is the user’s choice if they do so.

The new Automatic Repeat feature will be made standard on all videos and can be activated or deactivated at any time during the duration of any video being viewed, giving users added convenience whilst simultaneously improving their experience of being on YouTube.

1.3 The Automatic Repeat feature when activated allows the current video to repeat automatically without the user having to select replay, select another video, skip adds or take any further action.

The Replay option does not become available until the end of the users chosen video and not at all in a video mix or playlist. The Auto Repeat function allows users to continually play and view a video weather it’s in a video mix, playlist or being played individually.

Decisions to change view count on each repeat and a maximum number of views added will need to be decided, this will avoid abuse of the application, it is a consideration and the best course of action may be that the view count does not change or should have a limit in place.

This is an option and is not confirmed as the display functionality may not work with the use of the Auto Repeat feature.

Practical Examples of Auto Repeat in use

1.4 Your busy working and playing your music via YouTube however reaching to you phone or closing your work to go to YouTube every few minutes is becoming annoying, so you activate the new Automatic Repeat feature ensuring that you can enjoy the music while remaining focused on you work without having to press replay or select another track making you time more efficient.

You’re in the shower and you favorite song comes on you playlist, however you know it is nearing the end so you wipe your hands making them dry and go to play the song again, there is a chance you would have missed the ending so the next song plays, with the Automatic Repeat function activated there is no need to worry about navigating through various songs.

Songs act as a good timer, for example if you listen to a three minute song 4 times you know you have been active for 12 minutes and based on this you can make judgments on how quickly you should be moving before work, school or any other planned event, improving efficiency and offering a convenient service.

Frozen one of the world’s favorite sing along songs, the idea of having this song on Auto Repeat may make some parents dread a long journey, however if repeating the song keeps their little ones happy it may be seen by most as a small cost to pay.

Children can be continually entertained by the Automation of the video they are watching, especially when it comes to children’s animations, cartoons and all children’s programing. Without further interaction from their parents children can watch and enjoy more of what they love for longer.

The function is automatically disabled on moving to another video as the user has made a choice to leave the current video for a new one, which in turn means they may not wish to automatically repeat the video again. The new video can be activated to automatically repeat in the same way as the previous.

Playing Videos

Users choose a video, the video plays either going straight to the video or an advert is shown along with an option to skip advert, the video plays, the user then listens or watches the content, once the content has finished playing it stops, a replay option is now available, if the video is being played on mobile and if the video is being played on computer and some tablets further watching options come up based on what you were watching.

Taking all into consideration there is no option on any part of the YouTube site to Automatically Repeat video content which is where the new feature comes into place.

There are a number of actions that are taken by the user:

  • Firstly the advert, either watching or skipping it,
  • At the end of the video having to manually select to replay the video or drag the curser to complete the required restart of the video,
  • Selecting another video

These are actions that can be removed with the Auto Repeat function, having further choice can only benefit the user and advertisers.

Video Mix or Playlist Video Playing

Users choose a mix or playlist, the video plays either goes straight to the video or an advert is shown along with an option to skip advert, the video plays, the user then listens or watches the content, once the content has finished playing it stops, a replay option is now available, if the video is being played on mobile and if the video is being played on computer and some tablets further watching options come up based on what you were watching.

Video options and advertising remain on the side of the screen as normal.

After a video is finished there are often large full screen adverts that follow linking into the next video, with an option to skip the advert. The Automatic Repeat function when activated will remove this advert as it requires further action from the user which the feature aims to eliminate, furthermore the full advert disrupts viewing for the user. The current set up of the advertising at the bottom the screen and will replace the need for a full advert, shown below.

Other Features

Auto Replay for all playlists lists feature allows users to play the entire playlist they are watching again, however does not offer individual video auto repeats.

Auto Play automatically plays the next song in the playlist, this feature can be turned on or off by the user at any time. There is no automatic repeat function in use.

Shuffling a playlist allows the user to mix it up a bit and play song in a different order to what they would normally be played, this feature does not contain any functionality relating to Auto Repeat.

Some of the functions are not available on all devices.

1.8 The Automatic Repeat function for individually playing content is not available through any feature or device on YouTube.

Taking all the pre mentioned points into consideration there is no option on any part of the YouTube site to Automatically Repeat video content.

Valuation

The valuation of the proposed Auto Repeat function is based on the following:

These figures are based on research undergone and links to all sites used for the research have been placed alongside approximates given.

All figures are correct from date of research.

  • YouTube accounts for 10% of Googles total revenue YouTube has over 1 billion users.
  • YouTube has billions of views and hundreds of millions of footage being watched.
  • YouTube is watched in over 75 countries and 300 million hours of footage is uploaded every minute.
  • YouTube Alexa ranking is 3rd and has an average watch time of 15 minutes per day.
  • YouTube has over a million advertisers.
  • Bounce rate or click through 40%
  • 75% of all users use YouTube primarily on their Mobile.
  • Google Acquisition placing a valuation of YouTube at $1.65 billion.
  • Google have revenues in excess of $66 billion with income exceeding $13 billion.

The table above shows the total number of publicly available purchase prices for each company acquired by Google, 42 were found at the time of this copyright there were 181 total acquisitions.

The total spend on these products is approximately $14.8 billion with an average of $354 million being spent on each acquisition.

Taking out the biggest acquisitions YouTube, DoubleClick and Nest the total spend becomes $6.8 billion with an average spend of $175 million.

With all the above valuations the £13.5 million valuation placed on the new Automatic Repeat function is one which falls well below the market rate, even the valuation cap of £53.9 million is only a third of the average spend on each acquisition made by Google.

Valuation of Concept – Current Valuation

1.9 This is the current valuation - £13.5 million or $20.7 million the valuation increases by 15% year on year beginning from the 1st March 2016 with this being the first increase in valuation, the current valuation is maintained for 1 year.

2.0 There is a valuation cap of £53.9 million which will be reached in 2025. The cap is meant as a sign of goodwill towards YouTube, as my intention is to work in partnership with the company. This figure may be requested before the timeframe stated.

Valuation of Concept – Additional Considerations

This section further outlines and protects the Auto Repeat concept from being implemented directly onto YouTube through a Valuation Increase if the feature is added without prior knowledge, permission or agreement from Michael Barnes Keighley.

The valuation increase is put in place if one or more of the following takes place:

  • YouTube implement the Automatic Repeat functionality to their site without prior knowledge, permission or agreement from Michael Keighley.
  • YouTube either acquire or employ a company, companies, groups or individuals currently offering, have or claim to have knowledge of the Auto Repeat functionality or offer the function as third party with the intention and understanding they would be implementing or working on a project to activate and launch the Auto Repeat feature on any or all of YouTube’s video content including existing and new uploads.
  • If the Auto Repeat function and functionality including use of the icon designs shown in the How the Feature may look section, are launched onto YouTube without prior knowledge, permission or agreement from Michael Barnes Keighley.
  • Testing of the feature, any test using active video content on the site where real users can trial, test and/or make suggestions on the Auto Repeat function, this includes mobile and tablet devices.
  • If YouTube bring out an official application or through a download offering the Automatic Repeat function this will be seen as creating the Auto Repeat feature.

On any of the above actions taking place the valuation increase will be activated.
Additional valuation rules are within the copyright but the above covers most actions.

2.3 The additional Valuation Increase is not limited to the points mentioned, any implementation of the Auto Repeat Feature without permission from Michael Barnes Keighley, will lead to an automatic valuation increase.

Advertisers

The Auto Repeat feature is going to benefit advertisers greatly, each new repeat will be treated as a new user ensuring that the advertising maintains fairness.

2.6 On each Automatic Repeat the advertising will change according to the algorithm associated with that video, this is maintained for all videos once the Auto Repeat feature has been activated by the user.

The current set up is that when a video is played an advert is run at the bottom of the main video screen, it is removed by clicking on the advert and removing yourself form the YouTube site or the user clicks the X to close the advert.

This will remain as part of the Auto Repeat functionality leading to a number of benefits described below.

The Auto Repeat function will lead to an increase in exposure and click through rate for the advertiser.

This feature will seek to benefit advertisers and general users alike making it easier to listen or watch their favorite videos without having to act again.

For advertisers the Auto Repeat function will increase revenue through click through and for the general user and increase in the ease and convenience of which they feel whilst using YouTube.

Advertisers will be given a choice to if they want their adds to be part of an the Auto Repeat algorithm, it is a service which can be opted in or out from depending on the advertisers choice, once they have made their decision they can opt back in or indeed out at any time they wish allowing for maximum transparency, fairness and mix of adverts being displayed, again this relates to creating a fairer and more convenient system for advertisers.

It is down to the advertiser to decide if they want to be part of the automated repeat system, before the intended launch, email commutations will be sent outlining the plans and offering the choice to advertisers, this is a considered option and best practice for this will be outlined closer to launch.

For advertisers who opt into being part of the Auto Repeat algorithm, the number of advertisements being seen by YouTube users will be increased, which statistically should lead to a higher click through rate.

The option to opt in and out of the Auto Repeat functions an advertiser is discussed in the section titled Advertisers Options.

The advert shown at the bottom of the screen with some videos will remain as part of the Auto Repeat feature as this leads to an increase in revenue and potential click through which benefits both YouTube and their advertisers. The advert does not interfere with play so can be kept when the feature is active.

Advertisers will be given a choice if they want their adds to be part of an the Auto Repeat algorithm, it is a service which can be opted in or out from depending on the advertisers choice, once they have made their decision they can opt back in or indeed out at any time they wish allowing for maximum transparency, fairness and mix of adverts being displayed, again this relates to creating a fairer and more convenient system for advertisers.

For advertisers who opt into being part of the Auto Repeat algorithm, the number of advertisements being seen by YouTube users will be increased, which statistically should lead to a higher click through rate. Further details can be found in the Advertisers Options section.

It’s important to keep the current algorithm so on each Automatic Repeat the next advertiser in the queue will be played, maintaining the current fairness YouTube offers to advertisers.

Advertising within a Mix or Playlist

When playing content within a mix every few plays there is often a full screen advert which users either have to watch, listen to or skip, these adverts stop when the Automatic Repeat feature is activated as the one of the main points of the feature is to eliminate the need to re-click or take further action when listening or watching video content on YouTube.

The advertising can still be manually removed but requires a call to action the Automatic Repeat function will continue even with the advert showing, please see details on the algorithm prior to this section for details on how this works.

The Auto Repeat function is designed to eliminate the call to action for users, removing the main larger full screen advertisements will stop when the Auto Repeat function has been activated and the advert type as seen above will be used.

When the feature has been deactivated the advertising algorithm returns to normal.

All advertising outside of the main video content will not be affected.

Advertising functionality will need to be considered carefully and is not limited to the above and is open to other more developed option when it comes to advertising as it directly effects revenue. Technical consideration will be addressed. Above are considerations.

On opting into the Auto Repeat functionality, the advertisers advertisements will be placed at the bottom of videos under this algorithm, the advertiser will forgo the option to show large full screen adverts, only if the Auto Repeat advertising option is opted in.

The user can select how much is spent through advertising and in extension advertising through the use of the Auto Repeat algorithm and how much is spent through normal methods of advertising such as the larger full screen adverts and when they are shown will remain.

All other options will remain available to the advertiser.

On opting out advertisers will maintain normal advertising services.

The Auto Repeat function opt in and opt out functionality will need to be further discussed.

The intention is to add the feature to all videos.

Technical discussions need to be discussed along with the correct location and the logistics of the opt in and out function leading to it being place in the most logical place.

There are further details on how the feature may look throughout the documentation however the How the New Feature may look section has most of the most in depth information.

Implementation

The final implementation of the Auto Repeat function will be funded and undergone by YouTube with extension to Google. This can only happen when an agreement has been made.

Agreement will be between YouTube and Michael Barnes Keighley.

Once an agreement has been made the full rights of the Auto Response function will be removed from Michael Barnes Keighley and will become the intellectual property of YouTube with extension Google.

A brief tutorial will be made either via a video or a site page teaching users how the new Auto Repeat function works.

Commitments will be made to help with the implementation and Michael Barnes Keighley the owner of the copyright will commit a minimum of 3 years of his time if needed.

Implementation time based on the resources available to YouTube would be no more than 2 months. The process may take longer.

Details of the above will need to be discussed in full detail if agreement is made between all parties involved.

Name

The name of the application is currently proposed as Auto Repeat another option that has been considered would be Auto Restart, this name is also covered as part of the concept.

2.7 Infinity is a name considered it has marketability and can be used alongside YouTube in the following example:

‘YouTube Infinity’ or ‘Infinity’

Associated Icons are shown in the Sample Icons Section.

Any name reflecting the action of restarting or repeating the chosen video is subject to this copyright and is not limited to the above suggested names.

Potential names include:

  • Loop
  • Infinity
  • Restart

Names of the feature are not limited to those suggested above.

    Functionality

Any function leading to the restart, repeat or automatic loop action of a video cannot be combined as part of any already existing function as these are covered by this Auto Repeat documentation.

The mechanics of this function have been protected as part of the original concept which involves launching the Automatic Repeat function onto YouTube.
